From Dallas to Houston and everywhere in between, TXU serves millions of customers throughout the state. 5 Digital Energy endorses Vistra brands as a good option for small commercial electricity providers and approves their contract language in TXU energy plans.
TXU Energy offers several electricity plans specifically designed for businesses in Texas. Some of the different plans include:
- Fixed-Rate Plans: TriEagle Energy offers fixed-rate plans for small businesses that provide stability and budget predictability. With a fixed rate, small businesses know exactly what they will pay for each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity used, with the energy rate locked in for the term length of the plan.
- Variable-Rate Plans: These plans have rates that can change based on energy market conditions, which means that your energy costs may be more or less expensive depending on the market. This type of plan may be ideal for businesses who are comfortable with a little bit of risk and want to take advantage of potential savings. If you are considering this type of electricity plan, make sure that you partner with an energy advisor from 5 that is well versed in power markets and can monitor procurement opportunities.
- Renewable Energy Plans: These plans allow you to choose to power your business with 100% renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power. By choosing a renewable energy plan, you can help reduce your carbon footprint and promote a cleaner energy future.
- Green Energy Plans: These plans allow you to offset the environmental impact of your energy usage by investing in renewable energy projects, such as wind or solar farms.

Make sure to avoid falling off of contract without putting a renewal agreement into place. Electric meters that are not renewed roll into a pricey month-to-month hold-over rate. These energy bills are most painful during hot Texas summers or other months of high electricity demand. Financial backing and credit sleeves
Between COVID, massive winter storms in Texas and uncertain economic strength in the last few years, many electric companies were forced to close their doors. If a supplier unexpectedly goes out of business, their clients run the risk of dropping to costly month-to-month or variable rate plans. However, as clients exceed electricity spend of $100,000 or so per year, different types of energy products may make more sense. These products include Index-based rates, load following blocks, Retail Renewable Contracts for green & clean energy or natural gas heat rates. For deregulated states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Maryland or New Jersey, that may mean only fixing the energy portion of your supply costs. For those in Texas, it could mean buying your electricity from the Hub and not the Load Zone.
